This first track of our new CD is finished. It’s a Windhaven version of Wicasta’s old chestnut, “This Old Dawg”. We hope you’ll agree that we’ve captured the essence of the band in a rollicking tune that has become a favorite of our live shows. What better way to start out a CD?
“This Old Dawg” is dedicated to all those women who have had their patience tested by trolls with terrible pick-up lines in bars. You know who we’re talking about. Those guys whose appeal to the ladies is nowhere near as irresistible as the old dog likes to believe.
We hope you’ll have as much fun listening to “This Old Dawg” as we did making it. It’s going to make a great start to a fun CD. More tracks will be coming in the next couple of weeks, and we hope to have the CD itself available by Halloween.

We’ve started pre-production of our new album of originals, and thought perhaps we’d kick things off by posting a list of the songs we’ll likely be recording (although the list is subject to change). At the moment we’re calling the album “When The Winds Blow”, and hope to have it available for download and on CD by October. Anyway, the song titles won’t mean much to some of you, but there are people who will know more than a few of them. We’ll be posting lyrics and demos onto download pages as we get the songs into a workable shape. In the meantime, if you’re curious about the lyrics, some of the songs are linked to a lyrics page on Wicasta’s web site.
Note: There are audio samples of some of the songs on those lyrics pages. These are not the versions which will wind up on the CD. Feel free to listen to them if you want an idea of what the song is, but keep in mind that all songs will be getting the full Windhaven treatment and will be recorded some scratch.
As requested, we’ve put together a video for our cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” (which so many of you loved). Hopefully we’ve managed to put together something that fits the spirit of the song. Check it out, and make sure to let us know what you think.
We’ve just posted our first video on YouTube. We used our cover of Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” and coupled it with a popular Star Trek mash-up. The results were pretty good, if we do say so ourselves. Check it out and let us know what you think.
We stripped a lot of songs out our sets, and have been kicking around some ideas about what to add in. The songs listed below are good candidates, and will probably be worked into the sets at some point, in addition to a whole boat load of originals. We’d love for you to look them over and tell us what you think. We also welcome any suggestions (just keep in mind that we’re an acoustic trio). You can click on the links below to visit these tunes on YouTube.
When Victoria first suggested that we start performing one of her favorite songs, Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”, we didn’t know if we could pull it off. It’s a demanding song, with a lot of textures to it, and we’re the very definition of a stripped down three piece. But we’ve discovered that we actually do the song justice. Well, we think so, anyway. We’ve mustered all the humility we can manage, but still feel that we did okay on “In Your Eyes” – especially considering that this is such an iconic song.
“In Your Eyes” features lead and backing vocal performance by Victoria Sadler, with Wicasta on backing vocals and guitars, and Wolf on bongos and percussion.
We hope you enjoy Windhaven’s version of “In Your Eyes”. We feel like we’ve wrestled a monster to the ground and lived to tell the tale. In the end, that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?

No one remembers who first suggested that we do Leonard Cohen’s beautiful and legendary song, “Hallelujah” (made iconic by K.D. Lang and Jeff Buckley, as well as dozens of other artists). Our initial impression was that this would be a fairly simple song that we could put together rather quickly, and so we approached it without any suspicion that the song would take such a hold over us. We also never expected that it would become one of our signature songs. But that’s what it is. “Hallelujah” always evokes a strong response from our audiences. When we decided to record a few more cover songs to add to our demo CD, it was obvious to all of us in the band that “Hallelujah” had to be among those new songs.
“Hallelujah” features another wonderful vocal performance by Victoria Sadler, singing lead as well as backing vocals. Wicasta assisted on backing vocals and guitars.
We hope you enjoy Windhaven’s version of “Hallelujah”. Recording and mixing this song was an emotional experience for us, leading to tears of joy and abandon during mastering. We hope you have the same emotional reaction to it that we did. If we come even close to that, we’ll certainly know that we did our jobs.

When we first ran through Richie Havens’ “Freedom” in rehearsals, we had no idea that the song would become one of the signature numbers of our show. A spirit of hope and defiance fills us whenever we play the song. It always takes on a life of its own, and we always find ourselves returning to the room from somewhere else as the final notes are fading.
We hope we did justice to Richie Havens’ signature song. No one can perform it like the master, but hopefully we have managed to stay true to the spirit of one of the most iconic songs of the Woodstock era. No one could dream of filling Mr. Havens’ considerable shoes, so instead we simply tried to put a Windhaven spin on a classic.

On a sad note, we would like to dedicate “Freedom” to the memory of a young man named J.C. Schaffer, who was a promoter and entrepreneur we met through the showcases he put together at Market On 7th in Ybor City. J.C. lost his life a few nights ago in an automobile accident. We didn’t know him well, but J.C.’s death left us saddened. His was a life that showed great promise, and his ride ended far too soon.
